KAREL TEIGE ALPHABET POSTCARDS
April 7th, 2011
Typographer Karel Teige first worked with dancer Milca Mayerová in 1926 to create a new alphabet design for Vitezslav Nezval’s ABECEDA, wherein the poet created rhymes based on the shapes of letters. Now we’ve acquired (thanks, of course, to our friends at Book Soup) a book of postcards that showcase the Tiege and Mayerová alphabet collaboration, as shot by Karel Paspa. Below is a reading of Nezval’s rhymes paired with the images. While an understanding of Czech is required to understand the poems, there are no language requirements to enjoy the imagery.
ALPHABET by Karel Teige, $14.50, is available in store.
